AIM Founder wins Mississauga Arts Council's prestigious Arts for Health Award

The Mississauga Arts Council's Arts for Health Award, sponsored by Bell Canada was presented to Artists in Momentum, Founder Anna Silgardo by Mayor Bonnie Crombie. The award recognizes and validates Anna's work in developing and conducting arts for mental well being programs in the community, especially among new immigrant women, isolated and marginalized individuals.

The Mayor lauded Anna's organization for "putting to work the therapeutic value of creative expression, as a means for enabling them to find themselves in their new country, to regain self-confidence, reduce anxiety and dispel depression, to ultimately achieve transformation results in every participant.

ANNA SILGARDO FOUNDER OF ARTISTS IN MOMENTUM WINS TOASTMASTERS COMMUNICATION & LEADERSHIP AWARD

Anna Silgardo, founder of Artists In Momentum (AIM) and a mental health advocate was presented the prestigious Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Award. Anna was recognized for her contributions in improving the mental wellness of women and youth in her community and beyond, through her therapeutic artwork and creativity.

The award is presented to a non-Toastmaster in the community who is an outstanding communicator or leader who best exemplifies Toastmasters International's values. Toastmasters District 86 director Jocelyne Vezina acknowledged Silgardo for winning this award: "We recognize your passion for addressing mental health issues in our community using your artwork and leadership." Anna gracefully accepted the award - "I am deeply humbled and thankful to District 86 Toastmasters for recognizing and validating the work that I do." she said. "This award is for the many who gave up the fight and for those many more we can save together." AIM continues to build networks with art groups and community partners, including the Mississauga Arts Council, to develop and implement social well-being of the community through self-expression.
